Why Devine Arboricultural Solutions

Here’s why Port Moody homeowners trust us with their trees.

Qualified for Hazard Permits

Port Moody only issues hazardous tree removal permits when a TRAQ qualified arborist confirms high or extreme risk. Tiger Devine is an ISA Certified Arborist (#P8007A) with TRAQ.

Reports From Your Arborist

Your arborist report comes from the person who assessed the tree, so it matches what is actually on your property.

Permits Handled

Navigating permits can be confusing; that’s where we come in. We offer concierge permit services, handling the full application or walking you through exactly what’s needed, depending on the job.

Full Cleanup

Every job, from tree trimming to stump removal, includes complete site cleanup and debris removal. We leave your property cleaner than we found it, no exceptions.

Tree Care for Port Moody Properties

Port Moody wraps around the head of Burrard Inlet, with neighbourhoods climbing steep slopes on both sides of the water. From Heritage Mountain and Heritage Woods to College Park, Glenayre and Pleasantside, many properties back onto forested ravines, creeks or parkland like Bert Flinn Park.

That setting means large native conifers close to homes, sloped lots, and plenty of land inside the City’s environmentally sensitive areas and creekside riparian zones. Good tree work here protects the ground as well as the tree.

Port Moody adopted a new Tree Protection Bylaw in March 2026. A permit is now needed to remove any tree 30 cm or larger on any private lot, not just in sensitive areas. We write the arborist reports these permits call for and plan every job around the rules from the start.

Port Moody Tree Questions

Port Moody’s new Tree Protection Bylaw changed the rules for many homeowners in 2026. Here are answers to the common questions.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Port Moody?

Usually, yes. Under the Tree Protection Bylaw adopted in March 2026, you need a permit to remove any tree 30 cm or more in diameter at breast height on private property. The limit drops to 10 cm in environmentally sensitive areas, riparian zones, on developing properties, and for protected native species such as arbutus, Pacific dogwood and Pacific yew.

No. Pruning on your own property does not need a permit as long as it follows good arboricultural practice. Pruning that damages a tree, such as topping, can breach the bylaw, which is why hiring an ISA certified arborist is the safe choice.

You still need a permit. A hazardous tree needs an arborist report from an ISA certified arborist with TRAQ. A dead tree, or one with more than half its crown dead, usually does not need an arborist report. If a tree is about to fail, emergency removal is allowed, but you must apply for a permit the next business day with evidence.

In nearly all cases, yes. The City also takes a refundable security deposit, returning half after planting and the rest after two years if the new trees are healthy.

City staff typically review applications in two to four weeks. Removals between March and August may also need a bird nesting survey from a qualified environmental professional, so it pays to plan ahead.
