When a Consultation Is the RightFirst Step

tree trimming vancouver

Something is wrong with your tree and you don’t know what.
It’s leaning more than it used to, the canopy is thinning, there’s fungus at the base or cracks in the trunk. You need to know if it’s serious before deciding anything.

You’ve had conflicting advice.
One contractor says take it down, another says prune it. A consulting arborist has nothing to gain from either answer and can tell you which is right for the tree.

There’s a disagreement with a neighbour.
Overhanging branches, roots lifting a fence, a tree on the property line, or a tree next door you think is dangerous. An independent assessment gives both sides the facts.

A builder is about to work near a tree.
Excavation, a renovation or a new driveway can quietly kill a mature tree years later. Find out what the tree can tolerate, and what your municipality requires, before work starts.

You’re buying a home with big trees.
Some trees are protected and can’t simply be removed later. Knowing what you’re taking on before you buy can save a costly surprise.

What You Get From a Consultation

Tiger Devine visits your property, walks it with you and assesses each tree you’re concerned about. You get a plain explanation of what’s going on, what the tree needs, if anything, and whether that work needs a permit in your municipality.

Afterwards you receive a written estimate setting out the recommended work tree by tree [CONFIRM: along with a written summary of findings]. If you need a formal document for a city permit, an insurer or a strata council, we’ll tell you and quote an arborist report [CONFIRM: separately].

Cost and How It Works

A consultation costs [CONFIRM: $X] and Tiger spends about [CONFIRM: X minutes] on site. Book online or call 778-389-1317, and we’ll arrange a time for him to visit.

If you go ahead with the recommended work [CONFIRM: within X months], [CONFIRM: the full fee] is credited toward the job.

Consultation or Arborist Report?

A consultation is advice for you: what’s wrong, what to do and what it will cost. An arborist report is a formal document written for someone else, such as a city permit office, an insurer or a strata council.

Many people start with a consultation and only need a report if permits are involved. Learn about arborist reports.

How much does an arborist consultation cost?

A consultation costs [CONFIRM: $X]. If you go ahead with the recommended work [CONFIRM: within X months], [CONFIRM: the full fee] is credited toward the job.

What's the difference between a consultation and an arborist report?

A consultation gives you advice and a plan. An arborist report is a formal document for a city permit, insurer or strata council. We'll tell you during your consultation if you need a report.

Can you help with a tree dispute with my neighbour?

Yes. We can assess the tree and give an independent professional view of its condition and risk. We don't give legal advice, but a clear assessment often helps neighbours agree on next steps.

Should I get a consultation before construction near a tree?

Yes, ideally before plans are final. Many municipalities require tree protection when work happens near protected trees. In Port Moody, for example, a permit is needed for construction or excavation within 10 metres of a protected tree.

Which areas do you cover?

Vancouver, North Vancouver, Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and New Westminster.
